Editor’s Note: The following essay was written by Hannah Harriger at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp as part of a Bible class assignment. Hannah is 12 years old and did an excellent job. Hannah won first place in the Bible essay contest during the week of June 19, 2000.

Hearing God's Word is the first step toward the gift of eternal life in His Son.

What the
Plan of Salvation
Means to Me

Hearing God's Word is the first step toward the gift of eternal life in His Son.
Salvation. Eternal life. Nothing special that not everyone has, but it is something that everyone could have. You just have to be in Christ and remain faithful.

So many good things are yours when you come into Christ. You receive eternal life. I say receive because you cannot earn salvation. It is a gift from God.

This gift was God’s Son, Jesus. He sacrificed his life so that we would have salvation. He died on the cross to wash away our sins, even though he was pure and sin free.

Romans 5:8 shows how much he loves us. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

To me, it is amazing that someone would love me so much as to give their life for me while I was still a sinner. Christ’s death was all part of a plan. The plan to give us eternal life.

There are five steps to salvation: preaching, believing, repenting, confessing and baptism. Salvation is a gift from God.

We need Christ to live. Without a map, how will you get to where you are going?  Without a pattern, how would you make a dress?  Without water, how will a plant grow?

Christ is the water, the pattern and the map. He gets you where you need to go safely. He lets you live.

We all need to do our best to have faith and stay in Christ to reach salvation.
